Down through the ages, Alzheimer disease has been the curse of the elderly.  More than 420,000 Canadians suffer from Alzheimer disease or a related dementia according to The Canadian National Council on Aging.  It is now one of the most feared of all diseases.  It is relentlessly progressive and universally fatal.

Alzheimer disease is not an inevitable consequence of aging.  It is an active malevolent disease which involves relatively simple pathology.  Methods of treatment will sooner or later be found.  Whether it is sooner or later depends on how many scientists are put to work on the problem.  This is the 100th anniversary of when Alzheimer first described the disease.  Do we want a breakthrough now, or are we content to wait another 100 years?  For every thousand dollars of tax money spent on caring for victims, less than one dollar is being spent on finding a cure.

Donations will be used to support scientists dedicated to the eradication of dementia. Those who are supported by your donation will be world-class scientists located in qualified Canadian Institutions. Their research programs will be guided by an International Scientific Advisory Committee made up of renowned experts in Alzheimer disease.

For more information see the following special issue of the JOURNAL OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE: ”Alzheimer 100”

Your donation is needed now.  It can make a difference.
